About This Project
Interviews with union members who participated in the roads strike and county residents, including Commissioner Ross Sines, began in early 2019. More than 80 individuals have been interviewed, their remembrances saved in Word files. In April 2019, former Orphan’s Court Judge and AFSCME member Wayne Wilt sent the first letter to the Maryland Historical Trust requesting a road marker to commemorate the roads strike. The road marker was completed in March 2020. In January 2020, Len Shindel began writing a book about the strike. An unveiling ceremony for the road marker and a luncheon will be held after the reopening of gatherings postponed due to COVID 19. Len hopes to complete his book in 2020. Thanks to all who have participated in this project!
