WILL THERE BE SCHOOL IN GARRETT COUNTY THIS WINTER?

Mothers, it’s time to face the prospect of having your children delayed a year in school because schools may not be able to open in Garrett County this winter. The school bus drivers are already saying that they will not drive their buses over the roads in the condition they are in. And if the road workers are not put back to work soon, and we mean SOON, it will be impossible to get the roads into condition for winter travel!

In addition, if the workers are not returned to their jobs before the next Commissioners take office, should snow-removal equipment be put on the roads in the condition in which they are at present, if a blade drops into a chuck hole…boom…broken blade. Each blade costs $1,400. How many broken blades can the taxpayers afford to buy?

Also in addition, many of the County’s trucks are loaded with tons of shale, and sitting since April on nylon tires, the minute they move, the tires will be ruined. Tires are not cheap, either and sooner they get on the road, the better.

So it’s all well and good for us to talk about putting the men back to work, but how are we going to influence the two stubborn Commissioners who absolutely refuse to talk with representatives of the workers?

It beats us! We are in the same uncertain boat with the rest of Garrett County! Perhaps they could be impeached for not caring for the roads in Garrett County which is an integral part of their job as County Commissioners. The law says they must keep up the roads. Of course, impeachment proceedings would take time, and by the time they were completed, we would have new commissioners.

What’s wrong with talking, we would like to know. The Commissioners say, “Alright we’ll talk with you, put the men back to work.” Then they could talk…and talk…and talk and keep on talking until November when the new Commissioners came in…and never agree to a thing…but the men would be working, and they would be talking!

How about it Commissioners Friend and Sines?
